“Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better.”

Albert Camus, French author, journalist and philosopher

The 21st century is in full swing, and it has finally dawned on us: “Seriously, dudes, women can also be financially independent”. Bravo!

The 20th century was a battle for women

Of course, it hasn’t always been that way. In 1966, the now-famous investment adviser, Geraldine Weiss, received a letter from a reader who wrote: “I can’t imagine myself ever taking investment advice from a woman. Unless you take your advice from a man”. After that, Geraldine took to signing her newsletters as “G. Weiss” because of this “female thing”, so as not to embarrass her readers. But in the end, she showed who’s the boss, as over the last 30 years, her investment service’s recommendations have returned 11.2% per year, compared with 9.8% for the overall market.

Well, thanks to Geraldine and many other brave and smart women the situation has changed. These days, the investment world has rightly opened up to both men and women, as women are no less concerned than men with fulfilling their dreams, building their own futures, and taking control of their own happiness.

Orca’s women

For Orca as a company, it is extremely important to make investment easy for everybody. Half of our team is women. Wonderful, independent women who clearly understand what they want from life and work towards their goals.

Our team also invests via the Orca app. We have a little competition among our team, and – no surprise – the women perform just as well as the men. And why shouldn’t they? That’s why we want to inspire other women to become more confident and improve their standards of living through investment.

We’ve talked to some female bloggers from the UK, and were happy to find out that more and more women are starting to invest without a second thought.

“It is SO important that women invest, because our financial futures matter as much as mens (obviously!). And one of the best ways to secure your financial future is to develop a lifestyle of investing for the long-term. Financial freedom affords women the opportunity to live life on their terms and not be kept in unhealthy or unhappy situations just because of money,” says Diandra, one of the women we’ve talked to.

We think Diandra is right, and that’s why we’ve created a collection called “Women CEO”, where we’ve gathered LSE stocks of all the companies led by women, so you can promote women in business while investing.

Ladies and gentlemen, whether to invest or not is completely up to you. But as Geraldine Weiss showed, the world of investment is not just a man’s world. Whoever you are, your investment future is in your own hands.

Orca does not provide investment advice. If you have any doubts, you should contact an investment adviser. Terms and conditions apply. Your capital is at risk.

Orca is an appointed representative of RiskSave Technologies Ltd, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 775330).
